PBL is open to post-secondary students of all majors and disciplines with an interest in business leadership. No matter where your career takes you, the skills you build and the people you’ve met are important in shaping your future. California PBL is an excellent place to develop a strong background to become the best of the best in today’s generation of emerging leaders.

College Students

College Students

Why join over 225,000 students nationwide in developing skills for successful careers and for life?

Why not? Today’s college student is smarter, more resourceful, and more competitive than ever, having to keep up with a career market that is equally so. Through highly competitive business events that involve application as much as theory, and intensive workshops, Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) helps foster the natural spirit of competition embodied by students today.

We may be competitive, but let’s face it: we’re college students. This means that though we work hard, we can party just as hard. FBLA-PBL offers members opportunities to meet and work closely with members and mentors from around the nation. Social events both sanctioned by FBLA-PBL and independent of it are a hallmark of our conferences. Whether it’s a girl from Georgia and a guy from New York together on the dance floor, or a group of fifteen students from four different states having dinner at the Hard Rock Café, the opportunity to meet people and make friends at a conference is almost limitless!

FBLA-PBL also recognizes that, in our future careers, many of us will be interacting with people with a wide array of professional backgrounds. It is this idea that serves as the basis for the premise of the organization: bring students of all courses of study and interests together and cultivate healthy, professional interaction. This is because the skills that FBLA-PBL teaches, such as public speaking, job interviewing, résumé writing, basic accounting, and interpersonal communication (just to name a few of the scores of others), can be found in every single occupational field (that’s right, even scientists need to be able to write resumes and interview for jobs). It is this one-of-a-kind, all-inclusive approach that separates FBLA-PBL from many of the business organizations in existence.

Plus FBLA-PBL has been in existence for over 65 years. It is the premier organization for students preparing for successful careers.

So why wait? Join FBLA-PBL today!

Virtual Chapter

Can’t find your school on the chapter list? Then join the virtual chapter! If you attend classes strictly online rather than on campus, or attend a school where we have been unsuccessful in launching an FBLA-PBL chapter, this is just for you! Through the virtual chapter, individuals can join FBLA-PBL and participate fully in conferences, competitive events, member recognition programs, and other elements of FBLA-PBL. The benefits of being a California FBLA-PBL member will be available to you.

Membership in this chapter is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary school
  • Attending a school that does not have an active, local chapter

The virtual chapter is designed for those who are interested in FBLA-PBL, but may not have enough resources or experience to start a chapter at their school. Getting involved through participation in our many events is the best way to get you started! As a virtual chapter member, you will have support necessary to start a chapter. The state officer team will help you understand the benefits of FBLA-PBL and guide you through the process. Chapters like UCLA and UCSD were established by individuals who were once members of the virtual chapter.

While in the virtual chapter, I could see a great future expansion of California FBLA-PBL. This gave me the motivation to establish a real chapter at UCSD. FBLA-PBL benefits not only myself, but also students at UCSD and the San Diego community.

     – Bill Fu, UCSD

I was a member of FBLA in high school and wanted to stay involved at the college level, but since there was no existing chapter at my school, I was ready to quit FBLA-PBL and pursue my other interests. The virtual chapter is what brought me back into FBLA-PBL. In addition to getting acquainted with the structure of the organization at the college level, I met new friends and was able to utilize newfound resources that helped me establish a chapter at UCLA.

     - Lona Kwan, UCLA

California PBL would not be the extraordinary organization it is today if it were not for the support of our community. Our network of  alumni, employers, educators, parents, members and individuals who are so committed in contributing their service to our organization are a significant part of California PBL.
